Welcome to TownBiz by me, James Harris. I am an Oakland, California native, entrepreneur, explorer, husband, and dad. 

I’ve worked as a storyteller and communicator for more than 15 years and also served eight years on the Oakland school board. Oakland has been my home base for more than 30 years and I enjoy writing about all that I have seen and continue to learn each day. The TownBiz Project is something I started writing to encourage different thinking about the challenges many of our communities face and how we might go about solving them. Because much of my life has been dedicated to education, particularly the education of our most underserved students and families, many of my wonderings and writings inevitably lead back to our children and the example we must set for them.
